FREE Business Open Evening

FREE Business open evening event

Join us at The Wilderness Centre for a free evening event, of business networking sponsored by Hillside Brewery

We are delighted to invite you to enjoy a talk by our guest speaker Sara Naylor-Wild, the Director of Development and Research at the St Monica Trust.
This will lead into a discussion on ‘organisational change, with the opportunity for us to learn from each other’s ideas and experiences.’

The St Monica Trust has been on a five year journey of transformation. While many organisations talk about transformation, but nothing much actually happens, they’ve done it - they’ve walked the talk. Amongst the St Monica Trust’s achievements has been turning the iconic Cadbury factory in Keynsham into a leading edge retirement community. Sara Naylor-Wild has been on the executive team leading this journey. Now they are looking at the next five years, which will be even more ambitious.

Sara will tell this story of organisational transformation, about what worked well and what didn’t, highlighting what was learned along the way. Simon, our Head of Centre who has a background in consultancy, will then set up a discussion on organisational change, with the opportunity for us to learn from each other’s ideas and experiences.

The St Monica Trust is a charity meeting head-on society's issues of an ageing population and the changing expectations about what retirement should be like. The Trust has been through five years of major change to become a renowned leader in this vital field. Along the way it has successfully negotiated huge milestones. Foremost of these was the acquisition of the iconic Cadbury's factory in Keynsham. The Trust has transformed this into a visionary retirement community, named ’The Chocolate Quarter’.

Sara’s job is to plan and monitor the delivery of the St Monica Trust change programme. She knows how successful major change in organisations, of all sizes, really happens. She will be telling the St Monica Trust story and sharing her insights.

Take this opportunity to network and enjoy a delicious craft ale from the Hillside Brewery whilst you take a look around.

This is a free event for anyone interested in coming to look around the Wilderness Centre with a view to hiring it as venue for their future events, conferences, residential courses and retreats and day workshops meetings.

The Travelling History Company’s ‘Being Prehistoric’.
to Jul 30

The Travelling History Company’s ‘Being Prehistoric’.

The Travelling History Company’s
‘Being Prehistoric’

This two day family retreat at the fabulous Wilderness Centre will explore what it is to be human...and prehistoric. We shall journey to the depths of the Palaeolithic, a time including Neanderthals, ground breaking stone technology and amazing cave art.

We shall travel forward in time to discover hunters and gatherers, farmers and the age of metals. Through artefact study, practical experimentation, lots of creative thinking and our fireside philosophy, our retreat is desired to inspire, to learn and have plenty of fun.

Weather permitting, we shall augment the prehistoric experience on the ground with a prehistoric experience of the sky, exploring the heavens and considering what the night sky meant to our ancestors. But we shall also have some telescopes on hand to peer back into time and observe galaxies, nebulae and the birth and death of stars under the dark Forest of Dean skies.

As part of the Festival of Archaeology, our theme is technology; technology of prehistory and more contemporary technology of 17th century optics. The learning elements are aimed at young people.

The cost of the retreat is £30.00 per person

Camping is available: £7.50 per night or £8.50 for use of a bell tent

Optional meals can be provided by the Wilderness Centre and must be booked directly in advance: Food: breakfast £7.50, packed lunch £6.00, dinner £11.00, full day £21.50.
Email: info@thewilderness-centre.co.uk

The event will commence on the evening of the 28th July and finish at lunch time on the 30th.
